Most installations need three things: a way to detect what's in the gate's path, a way to secure it once closed, and protection for the electronics themselves. Work through these before picking parts.
Does your gate have safety beams at all?
If not, this is the most important item on this page — a gate that can't detect an obstruction is a liability, not a convenience.
Is the motor alone enough to keep it shut?
A motor holds a gate closed electronically. A push, a power cut, or a worn gearbox can still force it. If security matters, you need a gate lock.
How exposed is your property to storms?
Kenya's rainy seasons bring real surge risk. If you've already lost a control board to lightning, surge protection pays for itself in one incident.
Do visitors need to speak to you first?

Questions worth asking before you decide
Do I need safety beams if my gate already has a motor with obstruction detection?
Motor-based force sensing detects resistance after contact has already happened. Beams detect a person or object before the gate touches them — the two are complementary, and beams are the safer first line of defence.
Can the Photon SMΔRT beams work with my existing, non-SMΔRT Centurion motor?
No — Photon SMΔRT is built specifically for Centurion's SMΔRT range. For any other motor, including older Centurion models, the i5 wired beams are the compatible option.
Will the GLX900 lock work on my sliding gate, or is it swing-gates only?
Both — it's designed to integrate with sliding and swing gates, plus standard doors, so it isn't limited by gate type.
Do I need surge protection if my motor already has "built-in" protection?
Many motors include basic protection, but a direct or near-direct lightning strike can still overwhelm it. Dedicated surge protection, paired with correct earthing, is the difference between a motor that survives a storm and one that doesn't.
What's the difference between the G-Speak ULTRA and the Intercom Handset?
The Intercom Handset is a wired, in-house system — you answer from a handset inside the building. The G-Speak ULTRA runs on a SIM card, so you can answer and control the gate from your phone, from anywhere.
